Framing Watercolors

 Matting can help a piece stand out and pull in the colors you love.

Original Watercolors usually need a mat to distance the piece from touching the glass and if you are in a very high humidity location.  This is also true, if you buy a Limited Edition signed Giclee'.  I always coat the piece for protection suggested by the Art industry to preserve the Giclee' further.

However, if you are buying a reproduction on archival watercolor paper it isn't as necessary to mat the print.

This is another example of a completely different framing view with enhancing the lighter shades in the piece.


WATERCOLOR Process

Watercolors can be "dry brush" and it delivers more of a colored pencil look that is perfect for more of an illustration style.  An artist has a lot of control on the brush and were the paints are placed, such as Summer Cabins.


IF an artist uses a load of color and water, the colors run and splash together with more of a spontanious view.

"Holland Peppermill"

Additional Information

It was exciting to see the old peppermill when I was in Holland. A rugged sailboat was passing and the drawbridge was lifting to accommodate.  The mill was still grinding pepper after all these years.
