"Spring Forest"

Early growth of a forest tree in spring

Breath in the air from the forest in spring and what you can expect is smelling leaves, earth, and aromas.  The shiny new leaves are a gorgeous hue of lime green and yellow with many attached to a dark sometimes black bark of twigs reaching upward.

Oils were used here to show the depth of the woods and enhance the bright light of spring.

Neurons with dendrites can appear is space through "light connections", and similar to astrocytes.

"Neuronal Dark Zone"

Astrocytes

"The darkest areas appear to us as devoid of life - empty.  So we tend to ignore “the space.

Only patience will perceive the dim life glowing in the void.  Whether its brain neurons in gray matter, seedlings sprouting in gray dirt crevices or electrical connections between bodies in the universe … life ignites and connects.

Neurons appear to whisper across the brainspace with electrical impulses at the speed of light and in some cases even before an event occurs.  They nestle quietly growing until the spark releases the information exchange.  Nodes, orbs or galaxies in darkness wait to resonate when action is requested.

Many things do grow in the dark where life seems impossible.  Dendrites can grow within the void of the brain even after injury.
A dark zone in the gulf or in the ocean can respond over time and in the darkest zone of space Hubble came back with pictures of “Deep Field” - pristine galaxies from 13 billion years ago.

In Japanese Zen, Ma is the emptiness of space in Ikebana - as important as objects: the koan MU - means “no-thing” which is “everything”.  MU allows room for the universe. The figures dressed in black in key Japanese films of past were “fate” the dark zone of all possibilities that could unfold in the empty space.

It's fun to imagine tendrils in space creating the right nesting material to continue the existence of Stars.

"Holland Peppermill"

Peppermill in Europe

Europe was exciting, I traveled with a group of artists.

We stopped at many locations to get out of the van and set up our "Plein Aire" painting to capture the perfect picture.  Plein Aire is known as artists who go out into the wilderness or field to paint it as the scene is evolving right in front of them.  Moods, odd shadows, glints of color are seen as they occur and artists embed them into their art. An old peppermill still grinds pepper with a levee for vehicles to get closer to the building caught my interest.  Nostalgic for the days gone by with a simpler life always come to mind when I see useful older mills.

I won top prize for this watercolor ~ it was a pleasure to know the award presenter could experience the awe of an older era with me through this watercolor.

Brugge is such an old quaint city with cobblestone roads, silver glinted streetlights, and cafe chairs leaned against the restaurants at midnight. I used acrylics to get the feel of the late night seen during  this trip.

We all worked very quickly to sketch out the landscape, capture the right reflections of the buildings, and set the mood for highlighting the grand old mill. It was difficult to work on location after a long journey and setting up materials to paint out the scene.  But of course, it was worth it !

"Summer Boats"

Summer boats & cabins in the midwest

This is a long form text area designed for your content that you can fill up with as many words as your heart desires. You can write articles, long mission statements, company policies, executive profiles, company awards/distinctions, office locations, shareholder reports, whitepapers, media mentions and other pieces of content that don’t fit into a shorter, more succinct space.

Boats are fun on the lake and being in a cabin to enjoy the outdoors is relaxing.  I used to clean fish in my early youth if I caught them, now thank goodness I don't have to do that anymore.
